Climate change is high on both national and European political agendas as all countries need to address the environmental challenges. With this workshop, we aim to focus some of this attention on immediate and future, but inevitable, impact of climate change on international and domestic security affairs and related policy implications. Climate change no longer is considered solely as an environmental issue thus its implications are considered in a variety of contexts stemming from social, through cultural, agricultural, industrial to economic. The documented effects of climate change like global average temperature increase, rise in sea levels, and altered weather patterns generate security consequences, presenting new challenges to societies like intercommunal tensions, changes in rates and types of crime, new legislations and questioning the methods and technology the policing should be performed by. Our ambition is to identify the most pressing trends and threats, and to propose actions that the research community can undertake to support the adaptation process. The EU is fully committed to addressing inequalities and challenges affecting LGBTIQ persons both within its borders and beyond. The EU actively condemns discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, including the criminalization of consenting same-sex relationships between adults. In all spheres of life, equality is advanced in EU external relations through the EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy (2020-2024) and the European Commission's first ever LGBTIQ Equality Strategy 2020-2025 complemented by the "EU Guidelines to promote and protect the enjoyment of all human rights by LGBTI persons" for external action (2013). Furthermore, the EU Gender Action Plan 2020-2025 (GAP III) promotes equality for women and men in all their diversity through the approach of intersectionality. In this context, and on the occasion of Diversity Month and IDAHOBIT 2024, INTPA is organising a hybrid InfoPoint session on the Rainbow Economy. Its main aim is to reiterate the EU's commitment to advancing the human rights of LGBTIQ persons, and highlight perspectives on how to support the economic inclusion of LGBTIQ persons. This infopoint will complement the human rights discourse by highlighting the negative consequences that stigma, discrimination and exclusion have on economies. By doing so, the conference aims at giving voice to LGBTIQ activists and to partners who are implementing actions to drive economic inclusivity, economic growth, and ultimately realize economic fairness and social integration for the LGBTIQ community. The International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOT) was created in 2004 to draw attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex persons and all other persons with diverse sexual orientations, gender identity, or expressions, and sex characteristics. The date May 17th was chosen to commemorate the World Health Organization's decision in 1990 to remove homosexuality from the list of mental disorders. The theme of IDAHOT 2024 is 'No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all': at a time when hard-won advances for LGBTIQ communities around the globe are increasingly under threat, this year's IDAHOBIT theme is a call for unity: only through solidarity for each other will we create a world without injustice, where no one is left behind.However, around the world, LGBTIQ people face discrimination and exclusion which may limit their ability to reach their full potential in different areas of life, including education, employment, physical and mental health. As recent research suggests, the effects of stigma, discrimination and exclusion based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics could be costing economies billions of dollars.According to the ILGA Europe 2024 annual review of the human rights situation of LGBTIQ people, LGBTIQ persons are disproportionately affected in times of crisis and are often socio-economically disadvantaged in specific ways. There is a continuing lack of awareness and lack of political will to address socio-economic inequalities for LGBTI people. The work of activists, human rights defenders, and other actors to protect LGBTIQ people and advance freedom and rights has been increasingly beleaguered by attacks and restrictions on civil society space. LGBTIQ human rights defenders have been targeted by increasing physical aggressions, threats, and hate campaigns. This is particularly challenging in a context where, in 2024, 64 countries have discriminatory legislations that criminalize private, consensual same-sex relationships - exposing individuals to the risk of arrest, prosecution, imprisonment, and, in twelve countries, the legal possibility of death penalty.The EU is a strong defender of the human rights of LGBTIQ persons globally. Equality and non-discrimination are part of EU core values, as emphasized in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the European Treaties, and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. Hence, the increasing EU engagement to act for the protection of such values, both at the political and operational level.The EU existing internal and external policies are based on a non-discriminatory approach and address multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination. From global oceans to water flows, from contamination and bacteria to climate tipping points, pollinators, and landscapes of natural hazards; from natural and artificial intelligence to non-human values, forests, lands, soils, composting; from grief and mourning to rituals, wonder and collective action. This is the creation of 15 artists, working together with JRC researchers and the SciArt team, also involving EC policymakers with a keen interest in the topic. The result: nearly 50 people currently joining forces for NaturArchy.

This has led to a growing distrust towards institutions and those who represent them.Participants in this meeting will therefore jointly dive into the world of 'trust'. It has been reiterated during RAN meetings that this is one of the key pillars of the support provided by P/CVE first-line practitioners who work with radicalised individuals and their families (as well as any other work done by psychologists, social workers, counsellors). Factors that play an important role in this trust-building process are, for example, investing time, strategies for exploratory communication, and taking into account the perspective of the individual the practitioner works with (see here). Water is a vital shared resource to be passed down from generation to generation and one of the essentials for people, the environment and a just, sustainable, and resilient economy. In recent years, citizens across different parts of the continent have faced a surge in natural disasters, such as droughts and floods, which have made EU's water challenges even more severe and triggered a new awareness about the need to ensure a water-resilient Europe. Pressures on water resources are not only due to the impacts of climate change, but also primarily to decades of structural mismanagement of this precious resource and to pollution and ecosystem degradation. But water resilience is not only a challenge for the EU. Worldwide, the water cycle is out of balance, closely intertwined with climate change and biodiversity loss, mutually further exacerbating each other. The 2024 EU Green Week is part of a wider communication campaign dedicated to the topic of water resilience. The objective is to stimulate an EU-wide conversation around the EU's water present and future, with an emphasis on fostering awareness and promoting positive, collaborative solutions. At the conference, guest speakers will discuss various aspects of integrated water management. This includes topics such as fostering a water smart economy within the EU, addressing the challenges of restoring and safeguarding the disrupted water cycle, ensuring widespread access to clean and affordable water and sanitation and international water cooperation. The use of case conferences aims towards better disengagement and rehabilitation of the VETO as well as prevention of recidivism. The European Commission has been closely following the impact of distributed ledger technology on financial markets. To ensure that European markets benefit from legal certainty when distributed ledger technology (DLT) is used to issue assets and provide related financial services, the European Commission had proposed, and the co-legislators adopted, two important legislative acts: Regulation (EU) 2023/1114 on markets in crypto-assets (MiCA) and Regulation (EU) 2022/858 on a pilot regime for market infrastructures based on distributed ledger technology (DLTPR), both providing DLT-adapted frameworks for crypto-assets and traditional financial instruments respectively.Beyond the area of crypto-assets governed by MiCA, DLT is experiencing increased uptake by 'traditional' regulated financial entities that deal with financial instruments under Directive 2014/65/EU (MiFID) and provide related services. The Macro-Regional and Sea Basin Strategies Days 2024, co-organised by the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), promises an exclusive on-site experience at The Egg, Brussels from June 12 to 13, 2024. Their voices hold immense potential in the prevention and countering of violent extremism (P/CVE). Especially their contribution to prevention work in classrooms has proven to play a very powerful role and can help tackle the growing danger of conspiracy narratives. However, practitioners have often been hesitant to involve victims/survivors due to uncertainty and/or fear of retraumatisation.This meeting aims to review the discussions held by the VoT Working Group in recent years and assess the current state of play regarding key topics. These include the value of victims'/survivors' testimonials in P/CVE approaches, their role in working with students in schools, countering conspiracy narratives, and utilising victims'/survivors' voices in alternative narrative campaigns.
