Istituita nel 1966 per promuovere lo sviluppo delle nazioni asiatiche e dell'area del Pacifico, oggi la Banca asiatica di sviluppo (Asian Development Bank - ADB) è un'istituzione multilaterale che conta 67 Stati membri (inclusa l'Italia), di cui 48 appartenenti alla regione e altri 19 appartenenti ad altre aree del mondo. Grazie al capitale assicurato dai soci, la Banca fornisce prestiti, assistenza tecnica, garanzie e investimenti azionari con cui i paesi asiatici possono attuare progetti in vari settori (incluse le infrastrutture), molti dei quali realizzati tramite gare internazionali d'appalto.

Power transmission improvement project


The Myanmar Government received a loan from the Asian Development Bank to finance a power transmission improvement project.


The project will:




construct 8.4 kilometer of 230 kV transmission line between Thida and Thaketa substations and 8.4 kilometer of 230 kV transmission line between Thaketa and Kyaikasan substations;


extend the switchyard of the existing 230 kV Thaketa substation to accommodate two new 230 kV transmission lines;


upgrade the existing 66 kV Kyaikasan substation to 230 kV substation;


build new 230 kV substations at South Okkalapa and West University;


strengthen the capacity of the staff of Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise (MEPE).




The main objective of this project is to help complete the critically important 230 kV transmission ring supplying electricity for the Yangon region and ensure reliable electricity supply to support sustainable economic development for Myanmar.


Consulting notice


As part of this project a consulting notice has been published in order to select a firm providing support during the implementation phase. 


Interested companies should apply within Oct. 30, 2015.


The shortlist will be published on Nov. 16, 2015. The assignement will start in April 2016 and the engagement period will be 48 months. The consulting services budget is USD 4,348,000.
